Checkmate Evolution

Deck building chess where your pieces have health and they can attack. Did I mention you can collect powerups on the board? What about the epic fights you witness when a battle commences between pieces?!!?! Developed for the Nintendo Switch.

My contribution:

• I worked on chess AI that you play against. Using a min-max algorithm that also took into account where powerups were on the board in relation to the chess piece, so if pieces were low on health that would have priority assigned to it. I worked on optimizing the algorithm so it would perform better on the Nintendo Switch.
• Piece movement semantics, pieces need to move carry out a battle and move to a spot if they win, it needed to look satisfying not instant.
• Powerup game feature: Powerups would spawn randomly during battle for players try and pick up. They would give boosts to health, speed, attack and defense.
